Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the advantages of family football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Selmon raised on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He played football with his three brothers for Oklahoma. They were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most effective offensive lineman of the national by Outland, Lombardi and the Outland Awards. Oklahoma won two National Championships during the three years he was a starting linebacker. He was awarded his third scholarship. He was named a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during college. Then he settled in Tampa following his college years, playing for the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and played three times in the all-pro league. His business career began. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked for these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute in the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the United States' most outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in his height and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he led the 1975 team. In 1993 he joined as a director at University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. The university named him to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 in 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
