The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. In 2015 there were only two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. Despacito's popularity Despacito reached its peak in the year 2017. In 2020, 41 mostly Spanish songs will be included in the top 100. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito came out in the year 2017. Soon after, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018), and Madonna collaborated with Maluma for the release of Medellin. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton performers were lamenting the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
