Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. [7][8] Born and raised on the suburbs of Barcelona The singer has been described as an "atypical pop artist" because of her genre-bending musical styles. [9] She was captivated by Spanish folk music when she was 13 years old. She was a musicologist at the Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. The album reinvented flamenco by combining it with pop and hip-hop. The songs "Malamente", and "Pienso En Tu Mira" have been a huge hit with the Spanish populace and won universal critical acclaim. The album was awarded the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and included in the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the world music scene. [12][13] Rosalia experimented with urbano music in her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", achieving global success. The singer gave reggaeton a unique spin on her third album Motomami (2022) that departed from the brand new flamenco sound of her previous album. With singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko" and "Saoko," the album received a worldwide acclaim and was named the top-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has scored ten number one singles throughout her career in her home country. This is the most for an artist hailing from the area. Rosalia has also been awarded two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year nominations) as well as four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the music of today's popular songs with her unique flamenco pop". Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking business. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They divorced in 2019. The actress has an older sibling, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) and works with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts at an early age, particularly following her discovery of the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her musical education in the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a six-year course in the academy.
